Kansas City Garden Club’s Annual Spring Luncheon

A Fun Invitation to Gardeners

You are welcome to enjoy two fabulous garden programs along with a delicious lunch with fellow garden friends at the Kansas City Garden Club’s Annual Spring Luncheon.  The event is May 6th, Monday, 10:30 to 1:30 at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center, 4801 Rockhill Road, Kansas City, Missouri.

“The Celebrated, the Overlooked and the Notorious Native Flowers and Grasses of the Midwest Prairie” will be the morning program presented by Mike Haddock.  His recently published book, “Wild Flowers and Grasses of Kansas:  A field Guide” is a visually stunning must read for prairie plants enthusiasts.  Mike describes his “prairie plant obsession” as dating back to growing up in north central Kansas where his dad would point out and talk about the plants growing in their pasture while checking their cattle.

He is the president-elect of the Kansas Native Plant Society, and launched their www.kswildflower.org website back in 1996.  Mike is currently the Assistant Dean for Research, Education and Engagement at the Kansas State University Libraries, Manhattan, Kansas.

After lunch, Kay Schaefer, Florissant, Missouri, a floral designer, will entertain and enlighten you with “Spring into Spring:  Exhilarating, Artful Floral Designs”.  She will take you on one of her creative floral adventures by assembling dynamic designs with natural plant materials.  Kay’s floral interests began as a seven-year-old when she entered a garden club flower show.

She is a national Accredited Flower Show Judge for the National Garden Clubs.  Kay is also a teacher of the sogetsu school of ikebana, a contemporary Japanese art of floral design.  Kay also grows flowers especially for cutting to use in her designs.  She feels floral designing is relaxing for the soul, and hopes to impart new design ideas to attendees.

Event tickets are $20.00 with a deadline of April 22, 2013.  Make your check out to Kansas City Garden Club and mail to Kaye Vance, 4346 Lobo Court, Lee’s Summit, Missouri 64064-1418.  If you have questions, call Kaye at 816/373-9073.
